Finding a job is still the career matter on our radar for this month and possibly the next given its importance.
I received an interesting piece of news from an experienced mentee who attended an interview only to be told she was unsuccessful. She sought feedback and was told she was deemed to be operating at a level higher than the job and it was decided she should be considered for a higher role in due course.
I see a window here to share a few "candidate essentials" to attending interviews successfully as an experienced hire;
1. Before the interview, seek a good understanding of the role, the competencies required for success, and the levels of work particularly if this is a managerial role
2. Ensure you are well-positioned to provide competency-based responses to the core competencies required to succeed in the role. This has to be practical and drawn from your work experience.
3. Be set to ask the interviewer role-based questions to get a better understanding of the specific role challenges for the new role holder, in other words, what will good look like?
I look forward to reading your thoughts on interview tips for experienced candidates,
Let's discuss this career matter.
